Description:

This experience is intended for teachers to learn about and collaborate on ways to integrate real world applications of math skills into standards based teaching for Middle School math. Real world applications will come from industry, community works, community services, and future career options. Teachers will leave this experience having adapted 1-3 lesson that can demonstrate the power of math in the real world for students. Educators will also gain skills in learning how to integrate real world application into future lessons on their own. Participants meet on July 8 - 10 in 15 hours of PD.

Participant outcomes for the course:

- Adjust a number of lessons that incorporate real world math applications with career connected awareness included

- Develop partnerships and relationships with fellow middle school math educators and STEM professionals who use math in their regular work responsibilities

- Become more knowledgeable about careers that utilize middle school math concepts and application.
