Patterns Physics and Freshman Mathematics (both Algebra I and Integrated I) have overlapping mathematical concepts and pedagogical practices. Yet, from a student's perspective, they can seem very different. What if, we as teachers, dug into the content and classroom routines to make the transfer of knowledge from one content area to the other easier?
The three day workshop will give teacher teams from the same high school time to learn together and plan together for the coming school year. Topics will include student discourse, brain research, transference of knowledge, cognitive load, and equity. Each day will feature interactive lessons from math and science and provide substantive time for school teams to talk and plan for the following school year.
This workshop is designed for collaborative teams of both math and science teachers from the same high school. Participants will receive a $1050 stipend for attending all three days plus $200 for attending the optional 1/2 day on August 10th. Each math department in attendance will get four Go Direct Motion Detectors.
Enrollment is open statewide and priority is given to teachers in the PMSP’s region.
